The Lucas-Pratt primality tree
نویسنده
چکیده
In 1876, E. Lucas showed that a quick proof of primality for a prime p could be attained through the prime factorization of p − 1 and a primitive root for p. V. Pratt’s proof that PRIMES is in NP, done via Lucas’s theorem, showed that a certificate of primality for a prime p could be obtained in O(log p) modular multiplications with integers at most p. We show that for all constants C ∈ R, the number of modular multiplications necessary to obtain this certificate is greater than C log p for a set of primes p with relative asymptotic density 1.

A Formalization of Pratt’s Primality Certificates
In 1975, Pratt introduced a proof system for certifying primes [1]. He showed that a number p is prime iff a primality certificate for p exists. By showing a logarithmic upper bound on the length of the certificates in size of the prime number, he concluded that the decision problem for prime numbers is in NP. This work formalizes soundness and completeness of Pratt’s proof system as well as an...

The Biquadratic Reciprocity Law is used to produce a deterministic primality test for Gaussian Mersenne norms which is analogous to the Lucas–Lehmer test for Mersenne numbers. It is shown that the proposed test could not have been obtained from the Quadratic Reciprocity Law and Proth’s Theorem. Other properties of Gaussian Mersenne norms that contribute to the search for large primes are given....
متن کاملPrimality Tests Using Algebraic Groups
The first deterministic polynomial-time algorithm for primality testing by Agrawal, Kayal, and Saxena [Agrawal et al. 02] has been epoch-making. On the other hand, some previously known primality (or pseudoprimality) tests are still of interest not only because they are faster practically but also because they offer interesting mathematical objects such as pseudoprimes. The aim of this paper is...

متن کاملA Probabilistic Primality test Based on the Properties of Certain Generalized Lucas Numbers
After defining a class of generalized Fibonacci numbers and Lucas numbers, we characterize the Fibonacci pseudoprimes of the mth kind. In virtue of the apparent paucity of the composite numbers which are Fibonacci pseudoprimes of the mth kind for distinct values o f the integral parameter m , a method, which we believe to be new, for finding large probable primes is proposed. An efficient compu...
